AWM gGmbH sees itself as an evangelical university/academy for world mission based on the principles of the Evangelical Alliance and the Lausanne Papers. Since the late 1970s, its study center has offered intercultural theological training for global ministry among nations .
The shareholders are the two umbrella organizations, the Association of Evangelical Missions (Germany) and the Association of Evangelical Missions (Switzerland), and the Evangelical Brethren Church of Korntal. However, the AWM ‘s educational programs are also available to non-members. They are supported by approximately 160 mission societies and NGOs with students from across German-speaking Europe.
As a partner of Columbia International University, USA (since 1984), a study program within the North American education system is offered at the university level. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent vocational training is required for entry. The Master of Arts (MA) degree, as a specialized theological degree, and the Master of Divinity (MDiv), as a comprehensive, practice-oriented training for full-time ministry in leadership positions, are valuable for ministry.
Further models of professional development with an intercultural focus are being developed in light of the conditions of a globalizing education system. Within the framework of the CIU Korntal, which was established for this purpose, the AWM offers, for example, doctoral programs such as the Doctor of Ministry (DMin) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), with the latter primarily addressing gaps and providing qualifications in the field of intercultural theological education.
Furthermore, as part of the study program, there is a popular seminar program that includes individual professional development courses, such as training to become an “Intercultural Coach” and “Integration Facilitator.” For managers, there is a training program to become a “Systemic Organizational Developer.”
The “European Institute for Migration, Integration and Islamic Issues” was founded in 2013.
The main content areas are expressed through the AWM mission statement and the understanding of education.
Mission:
The AWM (Academy for World Mission) empowers Christians to develop intercultural and theological skills in order to live the Gospel of God credibly in a multicultural world.
Our understanding of education:
We stand for a comprehensive understanding of “human development” based on a Christian view of humanity. We empower people.
Missiotop (formerly AfeM) is part of our German-speaking mission theology network, in which AEM Switzerland has been involved since its beginnings.
In recent years, Missiotop has increasingly made a name for itself with its first-class contributions in its digital and printed articles in the quarterly magazine EM – Evangelical Missiology.
Today, “missiotop” sees itself as a service provider for missiological institutions, publishers and theological training centers with its website, lecture offerings, but above all with its numerous literary research contributions by a team of editors. – EM as a quarterly magazine online, as a pdf or in print is now popular among theology students, Bible students and people interested in missions and has proven its worth in promoting young talent.
In consultation with the Board of missiotop, the AEM has traditionally been actively involved in the promotion of German-language contributions in the Protestant/Evangelical area with staff from Switzerland. This has given the German-speaking missionary movement a voice in international work.

This short missions course summarizes God’s heart’s desire for the nations in four lessons in such a way that even those with little time to learn can get an overview.
DUG does not replace the KAIROS course, but for some it could be the only way to understand the meaning of mission from the Bible in a short time. DUG is suitable for Christians of all ages who want to take God’s mission seriously and are looking for practical ways to actively participate in the fulfillment of God’s plan.
The course provides an exciting overview of the biblical, historical, strategic and cultural aspects of God’s mission and our role in it and was translated by German KAIROS course staff from the English “The Unfinished Story” (copyright: Simply Mobilizing). It is currently offered mainly via ZOOM but can also be delivered regionally in person on request.
It is suitable for people interested in missions, church and church workers and for youth groups. The important thing is: God is looking for people who can be used by him!
A team of AEM Switzerland moderators offers the course at regular intervals.

The Kairos course originated in the Philippines and has been in use worldwide since 1994. It serves to train and mobilize individual Christians and local churches to preach the gospel in a contemporary way, to follow Jesus and to support modern intercultural world mission in the 21st century.
The 4th German edition has been offered by the AEM since 2019. The course is interactive and something for adventurous participants who want to learn what God is doing in the world today to fulfill His global plan! It will change their view of the world and inspire them to work for God’s purposes.
This nine-lesson course provides an insight into the biblical foundations, the worldwide spread of Christianity and proven mission strategies. It shows new cultural challenges and helps to reclassify the current trends of missionary work in the 21st century.
It belongs to the Perspectives family (“Perspectives on the World Christian Movement”, Living Springs International, the foundation course at the academic level for aspiring theologians and missionaries) and was developed by Filipino pastors and Simply Mobilizing with the intention of communicating God’s heartbeat for the nations and world missions to their churches with little effort.
What are the requirements for the course?
This course is suitable for Christians of all ages who want to take God’s mission seriously and are looking for practical ways to actively participate in the fulfillment of God’s plan. It has been developed for training and mobilization for local churches, but can also be used regionally. It is suitable for Bible schools as well as for training missionary candidates. The important thing is: God is looking for people who can be used by Him! This course is for such people!
You can find the current course dates in the agenda.
As an umbrella organization, we thrive on working for and with each other. That’s why we want to use this platform to offer our members the opportunity to share documents, reports or other news with each other. If you have publicly accessible resources that could be of interest to others, please send them directly to sekretariat@aem.ch and we will upload them here for you.
The Association of Protestant Missions (AEM), in cooperation with the lawyer David Rosenthal, has compiled helpful documents that help to meet the new requirements. The documents serve as a guide and may be supplemented, but only to a limited extent.
